Mother's Day gardening.

IMG_8297
For Mother's day I worked on my garden. It was actually a very pleasant way to spend the day, getting something accomplished. This was largely made possible by my brother who took on the onerous task of cuddling with Clara for a couple hour nap in the morning. So Layden and I were free to work on the garden. I put together the support frames for the tomatoes, except that I need 4 more 2x2's to be able to finish it off. They actually came together pretty easily, are sturdy and don't look too bad. Now we shall just have to see if they do a decent job of supporting tomatoes.

After we got the frame up we took a break to have lunch and Layden told me that he had fun working with Mommy, working hard. That was a pretty good Mother's day present in itself. He especially liked the pounding in of stakes, probably because it involves the use of a big hammer. So far I have planted tomatoes, broccoli, basil, onions, carrots, lettuce, spinach, radishes and swiss chard. Hopefully I will have many gardening success stories to share, as long as a late frost doesn't kill everything off or a particularly determined herd of deer doesn't eat it all down to nubbins. Around here we have some unusually fearless and hungry deer. I have seen deer on our front porch and deer chasing neighborhood dogs.
