Robot baby quilt: top done

I finished this quilt top today. It is based on a quilt from Dare to be Square Quilting by Boo Davis. However I did not have enough time to do a full scale version, 5' x 6' and 523 pieces, so I halved the dimensions and made a 1/4 sized quilt, 36" x 36". Below you can see the full size quilt my mom made for my son. I think if I were to make a bigger version I might make 4 smaller robots in different colors with different backgrounds. Now this will be sent to my mom to quilt because she is much better at it than I. I am very proud of this one, the corners match so nicely and it lays quite flat so I will keep it looking good and let some one else quilt it. I am also pretty slow at quilting and this way it might get done before the baby I made it for graduates.

I just finished this mei tai for a friend of a friend whose sister is having a baby in October. They wanted something gender neutral with browns and greens. I don't know when I will be able to add an action picture. For some reason my photos just aren't uploading.

How to: Felted baby chain

  

This was super easy and fun to make. I only hope that Clara will like it as much as me. 

I used size 9 circular needles and a variety of feltable wool yarn from worsted to bulky weight. Each ring only takes  2-3 yards so this is very good for using up scraps. I knitted four 9" long I cords (cast on 5) then joined the two ends with kitchner stitch (don't forget to link them up). Then I hand felted them. Ta Da! that's it.

The finished rings are closer to 6" in diameter and the chain is about 8.5" long.

Ladybug Kimono

My most recent finished project is this kimono style top for Clara. I based on the Habitual Kimono pattern, but with many changes. I lengthened the sleeves, finished all edges with bias rather that just the neckline and used three ribbon ties rather than just one. The extra ties help it stay on much nicer and the ribbon is much less bulky. I used the bias tape all over because I don't like hemming. Oh, I also cut the sleeves separate from the body to need less yardage. So, I guess I didn't really  use the pattern.
